JOB DESCRIPTION |
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in Delft, Netherlands. In this role, you will design and implement the move from an optical table to a deployable product under the constraints of quantum hardware including thermal stability, nanometer precision, and vibration isolation.
Your main responsibilities include: Design high-stability optomechanics (i.e., mounts, flexures, and optical benches) for precision alignment of lenses, mirrors, crystals, and beam splitters. Lead the mechanical packaging of quantum hardware, ensuring robust fiber-to-chip coupling. Design custom heat sinks and thermal interfaces to stabilize temperature-sensitive components. Perform Finite Element Analysis for thermal flows and structural stress to predict how optical alignments will shift under varying environmental conditions. Develop, coordinate and monitor all aspects of manufacturing of mechanical parts, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication and relation with the machinists. Develop chassis and structural elements that minimize micro-vibrations both for terrestrial and space applications. Manage and to participate in mechanical tests.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR |
BSc from Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or similar. PhD and/or Master's Degree is preferable. Good knowledge of mechanical analysis (finite element analysis). Fluency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, or CATIA). Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and designing for micron-level tolerances. Demonstrated record dealing with heat dissipation in small electronics and/or optical modules. Knowledge of material properties relevant to optics (CTE matching, outgassing properties for vacuum/clean environments) is a plus. Curious, detail-oriented, and hands-on in your activities. Good analytical and synthesis skills to produce high-quality analysis reports and documents. Fluent in English, in writing and spoken.
|
WHAT WE OFFER |
A competitive salary aligned with your skills and experience, and an additional 8% annual holiday bonus. Opportunities to work on international R&D projects and be part of the quantum revolution. A chance to join a leading quantum innovation hub (House of Quantum, Delft), and a young, energetic team of highly skilled physicists, engineers, and industry experts. Plenty of room for your own initiatives and ideas, with opportunities to develop yourself at the cutting edge of technology. Company sponsored social events.
